Conference on Violence against the Elderly and its Treatment

In November 2010 a conference was held at the Holy Family Hospital in which specialists and professionals talked about the phenomenon of violence against the elderly within the Arab and Jewish communities. Father Hazboun Head of the hospital Ethics Committee said that it is the state’s responsibility to integrate the elderly in the community. All scriptures talk about the importance of respecting the elderly. Sheikh Abu Ahmad said that violence is due to people being away from moral values.

 

   

Mr. Joseph Srouji Chairman of the friends of the hospital stressed the sensitivity of the elderly to be able to make decisions and is grateful to hear kind words of appreciation. Mrs. Violete Khoury Director of Nursing at the hospital focused on raising awareness among the medical and psychological staff due to the spreading of the manifestation of violence. Mrs. Ruwayda Gubran the hospital social worker talked about the various facets of violence that the elderly experience. Mr. Jihad Said Director of the Elderly at the Nazareth municipality talked about the raise in percentage of violence. Other institutions and associations were represented among them the Ministry of Health and the Police.
